Choti Diwali 2027 (Narak Chaturdashi)
Choti Diwali (Narak Chaturdashi, Roop Chaudas) 2027 is on Thursday, 28 October 2027, the day before Diwali.
Why it falls the day before Diwali in 2027
Narak Chaturdashi (Choti Diwali) 2027: Thursday, 28 October 2027
Chaturdashi tithi begins at 10:49 PM on 27 October and ends at 8:47 PM on 28 October (New Delhi), so it holds sunrise on the 28th. Amavasya begins that evening and prevails through the next day until 7:05 PM, so Diwali Lakshmi Puja is on 29 October, a day after the Narak Chaturdashi abhyang snan.
Abhyang snan muhurat
The snan is done before sunrise while Chaturdashi prevails: in New Delhi, 5:06 AM to 6:30 AM on 28 October (Drik Panchang). Exact times depend on your city’s moonrise and sunrise; check today’s Panchang for your location.
Kali Chaudas (27 Oct)
Kali Chaudas, observed at midnight, falls on the night of Wednesday, 27 October (muhurat 11:39 PM – 12:31 AM in New Delhi).
Rituals
- Oil massage (abhyang) and ubtan before the bath.
- Light a lamp for Yama in the evening (where the custom is kept on Chaturdashi).
- Light diyas around the home.
