How this kundli is calculated
This kundli maker works like a birth chart calculator that follows the Vedic (sidereal) system. Planet positions come from the open-source astronomy-engine library, run in your browser. The zodiac is shifted by the true Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the standard used by the Indian Rashtriya Panchang. Houses are whole signs counted from the Lagna, which is the usual way to read a lagna chart.
- Charts: Lagna (D1), Chandra (Moon chart, with the Moon's sign as the first house) and Navamsa (D9). Switch between the diamond-shaped North Indian chart and the fixed-sign South Indian chart.
- Planet table: sign, degree, nakshatra, pada, nakshatra lord and retrograde motion for the Sun to Saturn, Rahu and Ketu.
- Dasha calculator: Vimshottari Mahadasha, Antardasha and Pratyantar dasha with start and end dates. Your current dasha is highlighted.
- Time zones: local birth time is converted to UTC with your browser's time-zone database, including India's 1942–45 War Time. The offset used is always shown, and you can override it.
The engine was checked against the Swiss Ephemeris on 500 random charts from 1900 to 2100. Planet longitudes agreed within a few arcseconds (the Moon within about 1′ after 2050, where future ΔT is uncertain), and the Ascendant within 5″. No sign or Lagna differed. Want it in Hindi? Frequently asked questions
- How do I make my kundli by date of birth and time?
- Enter your date of birth, the time from your birth record and your birth place, then press "Make my kundli". The Lagna, Moon and Navamsa charts, planet positions and Vimshottari dasha appear straight away.
- Is this kundli free?
- Yes. The kundli is free, has no ads and needs no sign-up or login. It is privacy-friendly: the chart is calculated in your browser and your birth details never leave your device.
- Which ayanamsa does this Vedic birth chart use?
- True Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa: mean Lahiri plus nutation in longitude. Rahu and Ketu can be shown as the mean node or the true node. Houses are whole signs from the Lagna.
- What is the difference between the North Indian and South Indian chart?
- They show the same chart in two layouts. In the North Indian chart the houses stay fixed and the sign numbers move, with the Lagna in the top diamond. In the South Indian chart the signs stay fixed, starting with Pisces in the top-left corner, and the Lagna is marked in its sign.
- What does the Navamsa chart calculator show?
- The Navamsa (D9) divides each sign into nine parts of 3°20′. It is read for marriage, dharma and the strength of planets. The D9 Lagna is the navamsa of the Ascendant degree.
- How is my current dasha calculated?
- Vimshottari dasha starts from the Moon's nakshatra at birth. The part of the nakshatra still to run gives the balance of the first Mahadasha. The current dasha is today's Mahadasha, Antardasha and Pratyantar dasha. By default a dasha year is 365.25 days, and you can change this in the settings.
- Why does the exact birth time matter?
- The Lagna moves about 1° every 4 minutes. If your birth is close to a sign boundary, a few minutes can change the Lagna and the house of every planet. The page tells you how close your Lagna is to the next sign.
- Is my birth data saved or shared?
- No. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is stored. If you copy a share link, the details are kept after the # in the link, a part browsers never send to a server.
