Akshaya Tritiya 2026 date and Tritiya tithi
Akshaya Tritiya 2026: Sunday, 19 April 2026 (observed)
Akshaya Tritiya falls on Vaishakha Shukla Tritiya. In 2026 Tritiya tithi began at 10:49 AM on 19 April and ended at 7:27 AM on 20 April (New Delhi). Drik Panchang and most published calendars listed the festival on Sunday, 19 April, when Tritiya covered the forenoon puja window. Because Tritiya was also the sunrise tithi on 20 April, a few local calendars may show 20 April; check your family panchang if it differs.

Significance
“Akshaya” means imperishable: good deeds, charity and purchases begun on this day are believed to bring lasting results. It is one of the few days considered auspicious throughout (a swayam-siddha muhurat), so weddings, griha pravesh and new ventures are commonly planned on it. Parashurama Jayanti, the birth of Vishnu’s sixth avatar, was observed on the same day in 2026. Tradition also links the day to the start of the Treta Yuga and to Ved Vyasa beginning the Mahabharata with Ganesha as scribe.
Rituals
- Worship Vishnu and Lakshmi with tulsi, yellow flowers and chana dal-jaggery offerings.
- Donate water pots (matka), fans, grain, clothes or food; charity is the heart of the day.
- Buy gold, silver or other assets if you wish, preferably while Tritiya prevails.
- In Odisha, construction of the Rath Yatra chariots begins; Jain devotees break the year-long Varshitap fast.
Regional names
Akha Teej (Rajasthan, Gujarat), Akti, and Basava Jayanti (observed by Lingayats in Karnataka around this time).
